Dr. Rocket's Story
Turning Tragedy into Transformation
In 1995, Dr. Howard Rocket was a highly successful Toronto dentist. Then, tragedy struck: a major stroke nearly killed him. With quick and cutting-edge treatment, his life was saved but permanently transformed. Unable to resume his career yet saddled with huge bills, Dr. Rocket struggled for years to return to normal life. In the process, he spent over $3 million out of his own pocket to make up for lost wages and pay for his care, a process he calls the "net-worth reduction plan."
Today, he travels the world educating consumers about the need to better protect themselves and their families against the gaps in their financial security.
His inspiring story is the subject of his book, A Stroke of Luck. A portion of his book sale proceeds go to the American Stroke Association.

"Just before my stroke, I decided I no longer needed disability insurance, so I cancelled my policy. That turned out to be a $2.8 million mistake, and counting. Then, I compounded the problem by refusing Critical Illness Insurance. That blunder has cost me over $700,000. Because of my actions, I've reduced my net-worth by over $3 million. That's why my goal today is helping others avoid the mistakes I made." Dr. Howard Rocket
